  1. In accordance with current practice and proposed echomail policy
  2. within Fidonet, the following rules have been established for this
  3. Echo.  The following rules will be posted periodically in this echo.

  5. The purpose of the rules is quite simply to make sure the messages
  6. conform to Fidonet standards, keep the threads on topic, and to
  7. insure orderly distribution without causing duplicate message loops.
  8.  
  9. 1.  Handles, are permitted to a point.  Those who wish to use a handle
  10.     should contact the moderator by NetMail with one message giving their
  11.     real name or by one message in the echo if NetMail is not available to
  12.     them.
  13.  
  14. 2.  Off topic messages should be ignored.  The Moderator or his
  15.     Co-Moderator will respond to them directly.  Answers by others
  16.     just tend to perpetuate themselves and lead the threads astray.
  17.  
  18. 3.  Personal attacks (commonly called flames) are not permitted under
  19.     any circumstances.  In addition to keeping the messages on topic,
  20.     we intend to keep things friendly.  It is absolutely permitted
  21.     and encouraged to disagree.  However, it must be done in a
  22.     friendly manner.  It is particularly necessary for the profes-
  23.     sionals among us to remember that this echo is for *everyone*.
  24.     A condescending manner is to be avoided at all costs.  Please try
  25.     to remember how much you had to learn at one time.

  27. 4.  This echo is available to any BBS which wants to carry it, and we
  28.     hope they all will.
  29.  
  30. 5.  That's all the rules folks.  They are really just common sense
  31.     and courtesy.  Please live somewhere near if not within them and
  32.     all will be well.  However, we must enforce them if they are
  33.     violated.
